Even though you may be the one getting married, your family members are probably just excited as you to be involved in the planning process. While the father of the bride doesn’t traditionally get as much attention as the mother of the bride, dads have just as important of a role in the wedding.
While your father may not want to go wedding dress shopping with you or get involved with the small details of the planning process—such as choosing flowers and decorations—there are some great tasks you can give your dad to keep him involved in your special day. Here are some good roles for the father of the bride at your tent wedding.
Choosing the Song for the Father–Daughter Dance
The father–daughter dance is typically one of the most sentimental parts of the wedding for the father of the bride. A great way to give your dad some extra responsibility in the father–daughter dance is to let him choose the song you’ll dance to and have him arrange some pre-wedding dance lessons.
DIY Projects and Decorations
Assigning your dad some DIY decoration projects is a great way to get him involved in the decorating process—especially if he’s handy. Asking your dad to get creative with some handmade decorations, such as photo booth props or reception signs, is a great way to have him leave a special mark on your day.
Creating the Seating Chart
If your dad loves puzzles, put him to work on creating the seating chart for your reception. Creating a seating chart can be a time-consuming task. Who better to take it on than your dad? Additionally, having your dad create the seating chart is ideal, as he has insight into both sides of the family and can create a seating chart that everyone will be happy with.
Arranging Hotel Accommodations for Out-Of-Town Guests
It is usually customary for the bride and groom to organize a “wedding block” at a hotel close to their venue. This way your out-of-town guests won’t have the extra hassle of trying to organize their accommodation arrangements. This is a great task to delegate to your dad.
Arranging Activities for Guests to Do While They’re in Town
Whether you’re having a destination wedding or getting married in your hometown, there’s bound to be a handful of activities that your guests can do in the days leading up to your wedding. Asking your dad to compile a list of places for guests to explore and activities for them to participate in is a great way to ensure your guests are entertained and keep your dad engaged in the planning process.
The Reception Speech
During the reception, it’s a tradition for the father of the bride to make a speech. Usually, the speech will include a handful of thank yous to those who helped with the wedding planning. However, the main purpose of the speech is for the father of the bride to talk a little about his daughter and his new son-in-law. Of all the tasks the father of the bride may have, the reception speech is usually the most significant and special.
